Evanescence's 'Bring Me to Life' is #1 on iTunes and no one knows why

The internet has theories...

Almost a full two decades after its initial release, Evanescence’s 2003 nu-metal/goth hybrid hit "Bring Me to Life" is experiencing a new, well, life. Earlier this year, the track surpassed one-billion streams on YouTube, and amazingly, it now sits at #1 on the iTunes chart.

As for why? The online world isn’t sure. Other instances of catalog track resurgences – say, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” or Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” or Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” – have been easy to track. But in the case of “Bring Me to Life,” there has been no discernable TV or film placement or newer cover version to spark renewed interest.

In the case of “Bring Me to Life,” fans have offered theories, from the single recently being offered for purchase for just 69 cents, to Evanescence's current successful tour with Korn, to the fact that the song’s chorus was employed in a Stranger Things “Chrissy Wake Up” mashup video on TikTok.

Whatever the reason, the Evanescence camp is understandably thrilled. “19 years and still going strong!,” they wrote on Facebook. “Bring Me To Life is #1 on iTunes. Thank you for the love!"
