Living Colour and Steve Vai have teamed up to re-record 'Cult of Personality'

Vai joined the band onstage at Rock in Rio earlier this month

Steve Vai recently joined Living Colour during their Rock in Rio performance for four songs, including covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic” and Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.” But the highlight was undoubtedly a rendition of Living Colour’s 1988 smash, “Cult of Personality,” with Vai and LC guitarist Vernon Reid trading off incendiary solos.

Clearly, the band and Vai felt similarly, as they’ve now decided to join together on a re-recorded version of the hard-rock classic.

Said Reid, "In celebration of 30th anniversary of Living Colour's first appearance in Brazil, which also was [bassist] Doug Wimbish's first live appearance with the band, we are releasing a special edition version of ‘Cult of Personality’ featuring our special guest in Rio de Janeiro our dear friend, the extraordinary Mr. Steve Vai on additional guitar. Engineered & mixed by the original producer of the song Mr. Ed Stasium."
