Pantera announce first three tribute shows

The band will take the stage at three Knotfest extravaganzas in December

The Pantera tribute shows are now (101) official: Pantera's surviving members, singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, along with guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, have announced their first appearances, which will take place in December 2022 at Knotfest Colombia, Knotfest Chile and Knotfest Brazil.

In a recent interview, Wylde said that he’s “beyond honored” to be a part of the shows. He also echoed a sentiment expressed by many fans online that the shows should not be considered a reunion.

“Obviously, it's not Pantera," he said. "Pantera is those four guys. It's Phil, Rex, Dime and Vinnie. But it's just like when Zeppelin went out with Jason Bonham playing, it was phenomenal. I told Jason, I was just like, 'Dude, you crushed it, man. Your dad was probably bawling.' And it's a great thing just to hear them play that music again.

In a separate interview, Benante discussed how he planned to approach Vinnie Paul’s iconic drum parts “I can't go do this as the drummer from Anthrax because it would be a different sound completely,” he said. “So the way I'm gonna do that is if you close your eyes, it's gonna sound like it's Vinnie, basically. And that's how it's gonna be. The sound is gonna sound exactly like him."

The Colombia show is scheduled for December 9, Chile for December 11 and Brazil on December 18. These are the first dates under the Pantera banner in more than 20 years.
