See Iron Maiden kick off Power Trip festival with "Caught Somewhere in Time"
The long-awaited Power Trip festival is officially underway, transforming the Empire Polo Grounds into a heavy-metal oasis in the Southern California desert for the next three nights.
And who better to kick it off than Iron Maiden, who moments after sunset tore into “Caught Somewhere in Time,” the first of about 15 songs in their Somewhere in Time-meets-Senjutsu inspired set?
Frontman Bruce Dickinson didn’t take long to get a little feisty, mocking the crowd for watching through their cell phones halfway through the opening song. Good for him, I say — even if I was one of the people taping! I got yelled at for you, my Metal Edge family!
“Stranger in a Strange Land” followed; then three from Senjutsu: “The Writing on the Wall,” “Days of Future Past” and “The Time Machine” — plus “The Prisoner” from Number of the Beast.
More updates to come, all night and weekend long!
