Watch Pantera pay tribute to Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul onstage in Mexico

"This is for Vince and Dime, man," Phil Anselmo said

The now-very-real Pantera tour, featuring core members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown joined by Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, has been billed since the very beginning as a tribute rather than a reunion. And the spirit of Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, who passed in 2004 and 2018, respectively, was heavy during the band's debut show at Mexico's Hell & Heaven Metal Fest on December 2. In particular, Benante's bass drums were adorned with portraits of the Abbott brothers.

But the main tribute to the brothers came during Pantera's cover of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan," during which archival footage of Dime and Vinnie was projected onto the screens above the stage as the band played.

"This is for Vince and Dime, man," Anselmo said. "Dimebag and Vince, may the legacy live long."

You can watch the performance, which also included part of "Cemetery Gates," above.
